Ok the bill is on THOMAS.
Here's the link to the bill
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/D?d109:23:./temp/~bd2vNO::|/bss/d109query.html|
It's already been referred to the House Judiciary. Since it had to do with Competitiveness i'd rather much rather see it in the House Energy and Commerce or House Science Committee. Despite all their talk of 'welcoming legals, and pro-immigrant, anti-illegal immigrant" pronouncements, they haven't done much to help legals in the Judiciary Committee.
logiclife: thanks for setting up the webfax. Appreciate all the work you guys are doing.
Btw, in the senate skil bill (s 2691) i see a new co-sponsor added, TX Sen Hutchinson. Can you set up the Webfax in a way that we can email our Senators/Congressmen to request they co-sponsor their chamber's respective versions of this legislation? Thank1
one more suggestion/request for logiclife. if the webfax is ready by today it would be great. Cos, lot of people will be out of town next week, since its a long weekend, and may not be accessing this site for a few days. Just a suggestion. Thanks logiclife for setting up the webfax.

Calling USCIS is not going to help any single beneficiary. I guess this has been already answered by Oh. As long as we do not get away from concentrating too much on "Whats happening with my application?" we are going to sulk.
I agree..calling USCIS customer service doesn't make any sense. They are all front desk people who have no clue of what's happening inside.

I sent the following documents for AP E-Filing
Covering Letter from E-Filing
2 Passport Photos
Copy of US drivers license as evidence of a photo identity
Photocopy of I-797A (H1-B Approval Notice) as proof of current status
Photocopy of I485 Receipt notice
A letter with explanation demonstrating the circumstances that warrant issuance of Advance Parole.
Hope this helps.
I e-file my AP and I got receipt notice immediately after completion of e-file. And I got the direction on the PDF listed bellow. USCIS clearly mentioned DO NOT send Copy of ID, Photos unless they requested. Thats why I didn't send any documents to USCIS.
Will you please let me know why you send these documents...? Did you get a request from USCIS or you just send like that...? Please see the red marked directions from USCIS bellow. Thank you.
Next Steps:
Send supporting documentation to the address below, if required.
1) For information on required supporting documentation for this application, see the USCIS Form Instructions links listed at the following Internet address: http://www.uscis.gov
2) DO attach one copy of this Confirmation Receipt as a cover page for the supporting documentation that you are submitting.
3) DO keep the extra copy of the Confirmation Receipt and the copy of the application for your records.
4) DO NOT send a copy of your e-filed application with your supporting documentation.
5) DO NOT include any applications or fees with your supporting documentation for this e-filed application.
6) DO NOT mail photos or copies of identification unless requested to do so by USCIS.

A. You will need to wait until you file your 2008 income tax return to claim the economic stimulus payment. [New 4/14/08]
You file your 2008 return in 2009.
This I understand. But one needs the SSN already in 2008 as mentioned in
the sentence which you quoted. This makes sense: The 2008 tax can only
depend on your status in 2008. One has to qualify for the benefit in 2008.

Just being paranoid, but is 797 the number for the "receipt notice" as well as notice of action? I know that when H1 or 140 is decided, the notice of action form is called 797. I know that the USCIS seems pretty clear in the FAQ, but just wanted to confirm that a receipt is also called 797

Excellent news!!
I am real optimistic that introduction of a separate bill (SKIL)will definitely make its way through. Passage of CIR is primarily restricted because of illegal issues. I hope the house and senate look at the passage of SKIL Bill as a critical step (even if some don't like it).
Wait until they start getting to the details before being optimistic.
By the way, how long does it take for a bill to get debated and voted on from the time it is introduced? Months? Years??

Hello,
I am a filmmaker and writer, and am currently developing a proposal for a digital documentary on the experiences of dependent visa holders. The film primarily aims to educate potential dependent visa holders and their families about the limitations of life on these visas so that they may make an informed decision. It also aims to reach policy makers in the US and others who can influence policy change.
As part of my background research I have some questionnaires for the following categories of people.
1) Those currently on dependent visa.
2) Those who were once on a dependent visa and now have an H1 (or some other working status, not a Green Card).
3) Those who were once on a dependent visa and now have a Green Card.
4) Those who are back in home country after being on dependent status.
5) Those who are here on a primary visa but have a dependent spouse.
6) Those who are currently in home country but are considering going on a dependent visa.
The identity of the respondent is optional and s/he is not required to give any personal details. Please contact Vaidehi Chitre at dependentvisafilm at gmail.com if you would be interested in answering the questionnaires or in being involved in the research in any way.
I really appreciate your help!

I wonder... just wonder... Was the lack of any favorable items in CIR for either EB greencards or H1 B visas done with the knowledge that a week after the bills set back, all of a sudden a lot of people can apply for I485 (and hence take advantage of EAD/AP and eventually AC21 portability)...

cloture vote on CIR just started
only 30 or so No votes (I counted 26 then a splattering of NOs here and there came in later), lots of Aye's. Looks like atleast Cloture will pass. There is still one more Cloture vote to go on thursday then the final vote. Hope it stumbles going forward, its looking bad right now (meaning there is support for his bill)

First of let me tell you life is not fair. All BEC people everyone in this forum empathizes with you esp me since my husband is also a victm, even if they say u should have filed in PERM. I know for a lot of folks this was not a choice for you to make sometimes it is the company, lawyer, ur job situation that is the determining factor. So, please hang in there and contribute without bad mouthing IV. Maybe some of you should become a part of the core and fight for ur rights. The reason I say life is not fair bc people like my husband and I we are not in IT or work for IT consulting companies yet this whole backlog is created bc of that particular industry and abuses to the H1B system and we still suffer. Also, what happens when u work for huge companies that usually don't hire h1b but once they made the step they don't want to loose you since you are an investment for them and hence the wait 5 years to file ur GC. Again life is not fair when the business needs you to move to a different position, or downsizes and you have to start from scratch all over again. Both my husband and I are here for 10 years and are on our 8th year of H1 and this is the first time for me to file 485 with 2006 PD and his labor still has to be filed yet again in Perm. My point life is not fair but you cannot blame others. Very few people are lucky and get GC in a year or year half. If you look most people had some struggle some worse than others. Just be grateful that someone is ready to atleast listen to you and help you fight this long battle.

I think Canada might be a good option for some ppl. Here are some reasons:
You move to canada, have greater flexibility to change jobs, your wife gets to work, in the meanwhile your employer lets the GC process continue. This way, you live a free life until you get a GC. But I seriously doubt if any employer will continue to process GC if you leave the country.
Or you have waited long enough and are too tired to wait any longer. You would rather be elsewhere. In this case it doesn't matter where you go, Canada or back home.
Another good reason can be that you have waited for 8-10 years in US and have no hope in sight. You are not tired but you can clearly see that the wait is completely futile and you are just hoping. You have decided to stop waiting but still want something that's close to US standards. And I think canada still comes very close to good standards.
What do you guys think?
yes corret,
I do not understand the point of moving to Canada to come back to US when the retrogression seems to end(which never ends).
What is the point in moving to Canada and waiting for something from US. I would very well stay in US and wait. At least US is better than Canada on every aspect including $$$.
I would say, if you have PR and if you can get a very good satisfying job than what you are doing here which would add value down the line, then there is a point in moving. Just for the heck of having a PR, moving to Canada is not a wise thing to do.

Filed I-485 on July 31,2007, till date not received my receipt and my checks not en cashed either, Today I have been told my last day in the company would be September 28,2007.I have given following options, please advice
Options
1. Two weeks pay that's it I need to leave the company which leads me to square one of GC processing(Having approved I140 with PD Dec 2004 in EB3)
2. I will be transferred to Indian operations of the same company ( I leaning towards this option) if I choose options they agreed to continue my GC, but since I filed for AOS is there any way convert my AOS application to consular processing?
Guys please advice

Dear Folks, I have a question:
For example, if someone's Advance Parole document validity is terminating on (say for ex), July 16, 2009, then, should the person apply for renewing his/her application prior to July 16, 2009? In other words, should a person's application to renew his/her AP document be made prior to the termination of the current one, OR, could this application for renewal be made after the current AP document's validity expires (in this case after July 16, 2009)? Thanks a lot, friends.

When you say these are the " ONLY REASONS", you should think twice. If your wife delivered baby on that day or if you had back surgery a week ago probably you would not be been in DC for the rally. So please dont generalize anything.I am not sure if the most efficient way to motivate people is to write bunch of threads with the words like the four you used many times.
Good Luck
you are right. many people had very genuine reasons. personally i was glad to represent them in DC. even some very committed volunteers could not make it. i do not think chandu means to generalize. he is venting his own frustrations at the very substantial number of members who simply choose not to participate...in anything...let alone a rally...

This is yet another example of how the US is happy to tax us and let us finance Social Security, then place us in a similar category to "illegal aliens" when it suits them. Please give results on any legal redress as soon as you have them, as I will join also. I have already written to Congressman Chris Van Hollen of Maryland about this.
